Home Kansas City Royals

It’s currently the sixth-oldest stadium currently operating in major league baseball. Introduced in 2016, Craft & Draft featuring Boulevard Brewing Company is a unique approach to the social experience of baseball located in the left field corner of The K on the Loge Level. The dining area provides 24 beers on tap and 50 bottled beers as well as a menu that takes a handcrafted approach to gastro pub fare with an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients. The dark 2000s memories of Royals baseball were quickly forgotten once the team started winning games a decade later.

The proposed ballpark district would become a new home for Royals fans far and wide – both inside a state-of-the-art ballpark and in the revitalized surrounding area. We will marry the traditions of The K with a better experience for our fans. While we were not satisfied with our results on the field, the future of our baseball club under the leadership of J.J. Our objective is to return to form and compete for a championship on behalf of the great fans of Kansas City.

Referring to those three players was only aggravated by Kansas City's then-lack of any moves in free agency. The Kansas City Royals are moving downtown — that is nearly a certainty at this point. From the Royals World Series Championship teams of 1985 and 2015, to the Monarchs and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and to your support and dedication throughout the decades, our city possesses a rich baseball history. If this proposal moves forward, we see this development as another storied chapter for Kansas City. New development around the ballpark could attract2,200 onsite jobs, with employment representing$200 million in annual labor incomeand more than$500 million in annual economic output.

It is also just six blocks away from the Power & Light District, which is known for its bars, restaurants, hotels, and apartments. In 2014, the Royals started placing a "W" on the Hall of Fame wall for every home win, similar to the Chicago Cubs hoisting a white flag with a blue "W" at Wrigley Field for every Cub home win. In 2012, the stadium hosted its second All-Star Game, which the National League won 8–0. Chris Knapp of the White Sox pitches against Royals' outfielder Tom Poquette; KC won 6–5. Aside from the cold, R&B singer-songwriter RJ Griffith is set to sing the National Anthem as the Lenexa Fire Department presents the colors. Fans will get to see a flyover conducted by four A-10s from Whiteman Air Force Base, weather permitting.

The Royals were the first team in the history of the World Series to lose the first two games of the series at home and come back to win. Those studies have shown that claims by Royals' leadership of $500 million in annual economic output from the stadium complex will not happen. Instead, spending at new stadiums and stadium complexes have shown to be spending diverted from other areas of a city or region, not new money.

They won their ALDS, the ALCS, and hosted Games 1, 2, 6, and 7 of the World Series, but fell to the San Francisco Giants. It is part of the Truman Sports Complex together with the adjacent Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League . The stadium is named for Ewing Kauffman, the founder and first owner of the Royals. It opened in 1973 as Royals Stadium and was named for Kauffman twenty years later on July 2, 1993. Since its last major renovation in 2009, the listed seating capacity is 37,903.

There will be numerous potential locations, but a downtown stadium has been repeatedly mentioned as a possibility. Artist rendering of a stadium and entertainment district that the Kansas City Royals intend to build.Kauffman has undergone relatively recent renovations, including a $250 million multi-year project completed in 2009. According to Sherman, the team intends to leave their longtime home and finalize a location for a new multi-billion dollar sports complex. The Kansas City Royals are moving downtown - that is nearly a certainty at this point. But fans have no reason to be jumping for joy as the team's listening tour began on Tuesday, Dec. 13. While team Chairman and CEO John Sherman satiated some by committing to keeping the team in Kansas City, MO, there is one way to make more fans happier.

The team committed to a lease that will keep them in Kansas City until 2030, an extension of their current lease expiration of 2015. "I have a hard time understanding why mainstream news outlets continue to report numbers that were obviously contrived to sway public and policymaker decisions," Bradbury said. "To suggest that a stadium, or stadium district, will have dramatic economic effects is akin to stating that vaccines cause autism. It's junk science that shouldn't be reported uncritically by the media."

The owner of the Athletics, Charles O. Finley, had just signed a new lease to remain in Kansas City. The proposal of the Truman Sports Complex was unusual, as conventional wisdom at the time held that separate football and baseball stadiums were not commercially viable. Before the 1968 season, however, Finley moved the A's to Oakland, California, and their brand-new multi-purpose stadium. The renovation also created the Outfield Box seats in left-center field, which sit directly behind the outfield wall and in front of the world-famous fountains. Those seats hug the newly renovated Miller Lite Fountain Bar, which is built on the old JumboTron base.

Kauffman Stadium was built specifically for baseball during an era when building multisport "cookie-cutter" stadiums was commonplace. It is often held up along with Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles as one of the best examples of modernist stadium design. It is currently the only stadium in the American League to be named after a person and is also one of eight stadiums in Major League Baseball that does not have a corporate-sponsored name. The stadium is the sixth-oldest stadium in the majors and has hosted the 1973 and the 2012 MLB All-Star Games, along with Royals home games during the 1980, 1985, 2014, and 2015 World Series. Between 2007 and 2009, Kauffman Stadium underwent a $250 million renovation, which included updates and upgrades in fan amenities, a new Royals hall of fame area, and other updates throughout the facility. The proposed new ballpark district would be the largest public/private development project in Kansas City history and cost around $2 billion.

"When the time is right, we’re going to invest very, very significantly to win on the field," Sherman said. Sherman responded that the team tried to "accelerate our growth and our development" by acquiring players like Andrew Benintendi, Carlos Santana, and Michael A. Taylor. Those players moved the needle, sure, but they were far from franchise-changing moves.

When home runs were hit into the field the goats and sheep would scamper up the hill. At the same time, Finley replaced the Athletics' old elephant mascot with a live mule, appropriately named "Charlie-O". The Kansas City Blues were one of the eight founding members of the American Association. The franchise existed in its entirety from 1888–1954, and was an original tenant of Municipal Stadium.

The league, not amused by Finley's sense of humor, again ordered him to cease and desist. According to legend, on a road trip that the A's made to New York, a Yankee hitter lofted a long fly ball to left field which, in the cavernous left field of Yankee Stadium, became a routine out. Supposedly, Layton's gimmick was short-lived after Finley noticed the vast majority of the "would've been home runs" were being hit by the Athletics' opponents. In 2020, Kansas City-based design firm Pendulum unveiled a concept for a potential new downtown baseball stadium, showing an intimate facility with unique amenities. In November 2022, team owner John Sherman announced the franchise's intention to leave Kauffman Stadium before the lease ends in 2030, with intentions of building a new stadium in downtown Kansas City. In 2015, Kansas City returned to the playoffs, this time as the top seed in the American League.

The group opened the Thursday night concert by saluting the host town with their medley of "Kansas City" and "Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey"; a month later, they would record the medley for their fourth studio album, Beatles for Sale. In subsequent seasons, many future stars made their debuts for the Royals, who were building a highly competitive team, rising up to an 85–76 record in 1971. CF Amos Otis , P Paul Splittorff , SS Freddie Patek , 1B John Mayberry and P Steve Busby were a core of young Royals who made their debuts at Municipal Stadium.

We have enjoyed many exciting moments together at the Truman Sports Complex over the years. In the spirit of Ewing Kauffman, our current mission is to look ahead to ensure that Major League Baseball and the Kansas City Royals will thrive in this region for decades to come. The stadium was demolished in 1976, and replaced by a municipal garden. Today, the former ballpark site is being redeveloped with new single family homes.

After the 1972 baseball season, the Royals moved to what's now Kauffman Stadium in the Truman Sports Complex. The Royals won the final game at Municipal Stadium, a 4–0 win over the Texas Rangers on October 4, 1972, in what was also the final Major League game managed by Hall of Famer Ted Williams. Amos Otis scored the final run in Municipal Stadium history and Ed Kirkpatrick had the final hit. Four days prior Gene Tenace of the Oakland A's hit the final home run, and John Mayberry hit the final Royals home run the night before. In addition, the warning track was changed to a natural surface, and the height of the fence is now at eight feet. The fences were moved in 10 feet from bullpen to bullpen prior to the 1995 season and lowered from 12 feet to nine feet.
